I love this! I bought it to make chicken stock. I had the 6qt. enameled dutch oven but, I could only make stock with one chicken at a time. Sometimes, I’d end up making stock for two days just to get the chicken & stock that I wanted. Now, two days work is reduced to one. It is just perfect. Last night, I roasted two chickens in it and they turned out great. Even the kids thought that the chicken tasted better than when I was making the roasters in either Pyrex or my big roasting pan. It is heavy but, it is well worth it for the amount of time it saves and the great taste of our food. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.

I’ve been waiting for quite some time for the free shipping to be available on this product Lodge 9 qt Dutch Oven. It is everything I expected it to be. We have cooked with cast iron for 40 plus years, it’s a way of life for us. Both of us grew up on farms and it’s a given that cast iron is the way to go. Just use common sense and the cookware will take care of itself.

5 Stars A large, durable pot.
I was pleased with the size of this Dutch oven. It is a very versatile tool indeed — perfect for frying, roasting, and stovetop cooking in large quantities. I cannot imagine my chili in any other receptacle. At 22 lbs with free shipping, the Amazon buy is a steal. As soon as I unwrapped it I cooked up a mess of collard greens. For as big as it is, the weight is manageable. My only qualm is that I wish it were slightly narrower and deeper rather than wider and shallower. The width makes for a lot of necessary oil when deep frying. On the plus side, the wide surface area makes for easy and even simmering and stirring.
It came pre-seasoned, but I keep it well-oiled with a thin coat of vegetable oil or bacon grease after every use. Every once in a while it is good to rub it down with bacon fat and put it in the oven at 250 for two hours just to keep the seasoning layer strong.

I love this dutch oven. It’s great for my larger recipes like a double recipe of Ropa Vieja or a large roast. It cooks the meat to perfection. It makes for a cool presentation at the table as well. The handle made it quite easy to carry (full of lots of delicious food)to the dining room table. I also have the Lodge color enameled cast iron 6 quart dutch oven. I’m sure I’ll be enjoying them both for many years to come!
